KAMPALA – The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) together with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) are pleased to announce that the Uganda Press Photo Award is now open for entries from Ugandan photojournalists and photographers.

This is the third edition of the Award and this year the main prize for the winning photograph will be a Nikon D300s DSLR. The winners of the different categories will also be awarded prizes generously supported by the U.S. Mission to Uganda and Definition Africa.

This year a new “Creative” category has been added to the competition in response to the feed-back of last year’s entrants. We hope that it will encourage photographers to submit images which reflect more artistic approaches to the medium.

This year our judging panel will be chaired once more by Carl De Souza, AFP’s chief photographer for East Africa. Joining him again will be Katrin Peters-Klaphake, a curator with extensive experience in photography and photojournalism. We also welcome Ethiopian photographer Micheal Tsegaye and Nigerian photojournalist Jide Adeniyi-Jones, who lives in Nairobi, as well as Frédérick Noy, who is an FCAU member and renowned photojournalist.

The deadline for submissions is September 1st, 2014.

The winners will be announced during an award-giving ceremony at the opening of the winners’ exhibition on October 16th 2014 at the Makerere Art Gallery in Kampala.
