KAMPALA – The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) strongly condemns the sentencing of three Al Jazeera journalists to jail in Egypt.
Peter Greste and Mohamed Fahmy were sentenced to seven years in prison, Baher Mohamed to ten years, at a court in Cairo. The sentencing follows a four-month trial that failed to meet any rec-ognized standards of justice, and it is an assault on press freedom.
FCAU calls for the release of the three journalists, along with the other journalists in Egypt and around the world who are imprisoned simply for doing their jobs.
FCAU is professional association for Ugandan and foreign journalists, working in Uganda, for foreign news media.
